Take 5 with Gonzalo Garcia

But Garcia’s journey to the top wasn’t always straightforward. A year ago, he was living in South Florida, far from his native Argentina, where he had spent most of his career as a professional dancer. “I’m sure it was a shock for them,” Garcia says of Miami City Ballet’s decision to hire him. “She had a change of heart, and a change of heart sometimes means an opportunity for an institution to reassess what direction they want to go, and pump fresh energy. And I think that’s what they did with me.”

Garcia’s own career in dance was marked by success and recognition. He danced with some of the world’s top companies, including The Royal Ballet and The Paris Opera Ballet. But after years of performing, he decided it was time to take on a new challenge.
