A community beach cleanup and press conference will be held on Clearwater Beach to raise awareness about the impact of big oil on our environment. The event is being organized by Sierra Club Florida, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, and Florida Student PIRGs.
The cleanup will take place at 9:00 AM on Clearwater Beach, followed by a press conference at 11:00 AM. During the press conference, speakers will highlight the devastating effects of big oil on our environment and the importance of protecting our natural resources.

Why Big Oil is a Threat to Our Environment
The Deepwater Horizon explosion in 2010 was one of the worst environmental disasters in history, causing widespread damage to the Gulf of Mexico. The spill released millions of gallons of oil into the water, harming marine life and ecosystems.
- Oil spills can have devastating effects on marine life, including fish, birds, and other wildlife.
- The impact of big oil on our environment goes beyond just oil spills. Fracking, drilling, and other extractive activities can contaminate water sources and harm local communities.
What You Can Do to Help
There are several ways you can help protect our environment from the impacts of big oil:
- Participate in beach cleanups and other community events to raise awareness about environmental issues.
- Support organizations that work to protect our natural resources, such as Sierra Club Florida and Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
- Make informed choices when it comes to energy consumption and production, choosing renewable sources whenever possible.
The event is free and open to the public. We encourage everyone to attend and get involved in protecting our environment from the impacts of big oil.
